How to prepare for your cleaning

Ten minutes of tidying before we arrive makes a visible difference to the result. Here is the whole list.

  1. 1

    Clear small items and breakables

Lamps, plants, toys, shoes, magazines, anything on the floor. We will work around what is left, but a clear floor gets cleaned properly and a cluttered one does not.

  2. 2

    Move what you want moved

We move light furniture — chairs, side tables, small sofas. We do not move beds, dressers, pianos, entertainment centers, china cabinets, or electronics. Anything we cannot move stays where it is, and the floor under it will not be cleaned.

  3. 3

    Vacuum if you can

Not essential, and not something we charge extra for skipping. But a quick pass over the traffic areas pulls out loose grit and gives you a slightly better result.

  4. 4

    Strip the mattresses

Sheets, protectors, toppers, all off, if we are cleaning mattresses. It is the one thing that holds up a mattress job if it is not done.

  5. 5

Plan where the pets and kids will be

Doors will be open, hoses will run through them, and there will be equipment noise. A closed room or a walk works best for everyone.

  6. 6

Save us a parking space near the door

Our hoses run from the van to your rooms, so the closer we park, the better the machine performs. On a busy street, a space held for us genuinely helps.

  7. 7

An adult needs to be home

Someone 18 or over has to let us in and walk the job through with us at the start. That walk-through is when we agree what is being cleaned and flag anything we are unsure about.

  8. 8

    Point out the problem spots

Tell us what happened and when, especially with pet accidents. What was spilled and what has already been tried on it changes how we treat it.

What we need from the house

  • Water access — an indoor tap we can connect to
  • Electricity — a couple of standard outlets
  • A drain we can empty waste water into

Furniture: what we move and what we leave

We will move

  • Dining and occasional chairs
  • Side tables and coffee tables
  • Small sofas and armchairs
  • Floor lamps and light plant stands

We will not move

  • Beds and dressers
  • Pianos and organs
  • Entertainment centers and TVs
  • China cabinets and display units
  • Anything electronic, or too heavy or fragile to move safely

It is not about the effort — it is that a scratched floor, a dropped TV, or a wrenched back costs everyone more than the clean is worth. If you want a room done completely, clear it before we arrive.
