Questions and answers
Including the awkward ones. If something is not here, call us and ask — we would rather answer it now than at your front door.
The usual questions
How long until it is dry?
Carpets take about 6–12 hours and couches about 4–8 hours, depending on humidity and airflow in your home. Opening a window or running fans and the air conditioning makes a real difference. Each service page lists its own dry time.
Do I need to move the furniture?
We move light furniture such as chairs and small tables. We do not move beds, dressers, pianos, entertainment centers, or electronics, and anything under furniture we cannot move will not be cleaned. If you want a room done completely, clearing it before we arrive is the way.
Do I need to be home?
Yes. An adult needs to let us in and walk the job through with us at the start, so we agree on what is being cleaned and what to expect before anything gets wet.
Is it safe for kids and pets?
Keep children and pets off damp areas until they are dry, both because wet carpet and the hard floor beside it are slippery and because nobody should be lying on damp fabric. If anyone in the house has sensitivities, tell us when you book and ask about the products we plan to use on the day.
Can you remove pet urine?
We treat it, and many cases improve a great deal. Being straight with you: urine that has soaked through the carpet into the padding and subfloor can be permanent, and stains that deep can wick back up as the carpet dries. We will tell you what we think we can achieve before we start.
Will all the stains come out?
Most do. Some will not. Dyes, bleach, rust, ink, and old urine can permanently change the fibre, and no cleaning brings back colour that is gone. We would rather say so at the door than surprise you at the end.
Do you pick up rugs?
Yes, for rugs that need a deeper clean than we can do in your living room. Turnaround is about 5–10 days. We photograph the rug and give you a receipt describing its condition when we collect it, and you see the same photos when we bring it back.
Can you clean any couch?
We check the cleaning code tag first, usually under a cushion. Codes "W" and "WS" clean well. Some fabrics marked "X" or "S" cannot be safely cleaned with water, and we will tell you that before we start rather than after.
How do I pay?
Nothing when you send your request. Once we have checked your photos we text or email your fixed price with a secure link to pay a deposit, which confirms your appointment and comes off the price. After the job we send a link for the balance. Rugs cleaned at our shop need half at pickup and the rest on delivery.
What is your cancellation policy?
Free to cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours’ notice. Later than that, a fee may apply — the details are in our service agreement.
Is there a minimum charge?
Yes. Our minimum for any visit is $125. It covers getting the van, the equipment, and a technician to your door, which costs the same whether we clean one room or five.
Tile & Grout Cleaning
Will my grout go back to its original colour?
Usually it comes back a long way, and the difference is the thing people photograph. But grout that has been stained for years, or that was sealed over while it was already dirty, may not return all the way. We do a test patch first so you can see the realistic result before you commit.
Do I need the grout sealed afterwards?
We recommend it. Clean grout is porous and starts absorbing again immediately, so sealing is what makes the clean last rather than something you repeat every year. The grout has to be fully dry first, which sometimes means a short second visit.
Can you clean natural stone?
Often, but it is a different job. Marble, travertine, slate, and saltillo each need their own products, and the acidic cleaners that work on ceramic grout will permanently etch some stone. Tell us what you have and we will confirm before you book.
Mattress Cleaning
How long until I can sleep on it?
Several hours. Do not make the bed up until the mattress is dry all the way through — sheets on a damp mattress trap the moisture in.
Do I need to strip the bed first?
Yes, please. Take off the sheets, the mattress protector, and anything else covering the mattress before we arrive.
Can you clean both sides?
Yes, as an add-on, on a mattress we can safely flip. Pillow-top and very heavy mattresses are often one-sided by design.
Couch & Upholstery Cleaning
Can you clean any couch?
We check the cleaning code tag first. Codes "W" and "WS" are the most common and clean well. Some fabrics marked "X" or "S" cannot be safely cleaned with water, and we will tell you before we start.
Where do I find the cleaning code tag?
Usually under a seat cushion or on the underside of the frame. A photo of it sent with your quote request saves us both a trip.
How long until I can sit on it?
About 4–8 hours. Leave loose cushions standing on edge and do not put them back or sit down until they are dry all the way through.
Carpet Cleaning
How long until the carpet is dry?
About 6–12 hours in most homes. Humidity and airflow make the biggest difference, so opening windows or running fans and the air conditioning speeds it up.
Do you move the furniture?
We move light furniture such as chairs, side tables, and small sofas. We do not move beds, dressers, pianos, entertainment centers, or electronics, and carpet under anything we cannot move will not be cleaned.
Can you get pet urine out?
We treat it, and many cases improve a lot. Urine that has soaked through into the padding can be permanent, and stains that deep can wick back up as the carpet dries.
Area Rug Cleaning
Do you pick rugs up?
Yes, for rugs that need a deeper clean than we can do in a living room. Turnaround is about 5–10 days. We photograph the rug and give you a receipt describing its condition when we collect it.
Can you clean wool or silk rugs?
Wool, yes, normally at our shop where we can control the wash and the drying. Silk, viscose, and rayon are far more delicate and we assess those case by case. Some we will decline rather than risk.
Why do rugs need a quote instead of a fixed price?
Because the price depends on size, fibre, construction, and condition, and two rugs of the same size can need completely different work.
Hardwood Floor Cleaning
Will this get rid of the scratches?
No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something. Cleaning removes the film and soil sitting on top of the finish, which is what makes most floors look dull. Scratches that have gone through the finish into the wood need sanding and refinishing, which is a different trade.
Is it safe for engineered or laminate floors?
Engineered wood with a sound factory finish, usually yes. Laminate, and wood that is unsealed or waxed, are different and we check first — the wrong method on those causes swelling at the seams that cannot be undone. We always test a hidden area before we start.
How soon can I walk on it and put the rugs back?
Walk on it in an hour or two, in clean socks. Leave rugs and furniture pads off for 24 hours so the floor breathes and nothing prints into it while it finishes curing.
