After your cleaning

What to expect while everything dries, and what to do if something is not right.

How long yours will take to dry

These are typical times. Humidity, temperature, and airflow move them in both directions, so treat them as a guide rather than a promise.

While it dries

Get some air moving

Open windows if it is dry outside, run ceiling fans, and leave the air conditioning on. Airflow does more for drying time than heat does. On a humid day, closed windows plus AC beats open windows.

Walk in clean socks, not shoes and not bare feet

Shoes bring back the soil we just took out, and bare feet leave oils behind. Clean socks for the first few hours are the answer.

Mind the hard floors at the edges

Damp carpet next to tile, vinyl, or wood makes those surfaces slippery. This is the part of the day when people actually fall, so take the corners slowly.

Leave the furniture tabs and pads for 24 hours

Those little plastic tabs and foam blocks under the furniture legs stop wood stain and metal from bleeding into damp carpet. Pull them out too early and you get a permanent mark.

Do not use the mattress or couch until it is dry

Making the bed up over a damp mattress traps the moisture in, and sitting on damp upholstery pushes soil back down into the fibre. Leave loose cushions standing on edge until they are dry through.

Vacuum once it is fully dry

The first vacuum after a clean picks up loosened soil the extraction brought to the surface. Wait until it is properly dry, then vacuum normally.

If a spot comes back

Why it happens

It is called wicking. A spill that soaked down into the padding does not all come out with the carpet above it, and as the carpet dries, what is left travels back up the fibres and reappears at the surface. It is not a sign the clean failed — it is the spill being deeper than the carpet.

What to do

  1. 1. Blot it with a clean white cloth — press, do not rub. Colour from a printed towel can transfer into damp carpet.
  2. 2. Do not attack it with a supermarket spot cleaner. Most leave a sticky residue that attracts soil and makes the spot come back darker.
  3. 3. Photograph it and call us within 7 days. We will come back and re-treat the area at no charge.

Damage claims are different from spots: those need to be reported within 72 hours of the job so we can come and look before anything is repaired or replaced. Both are set out in our service agreement.
